Have some questions?

Where did this e-book come from?

I wrote this text to accompany my SkillShare class on June 10, 2012. It covers a number of real-world examples dealing with meta data, the extra bits of information that WordPress lets us tack on posts, pages, custom post types, and users.

How much does it cost?

The donation version of the e-book is available for $2, $5, or $10. It’s a wickedly designed 45-page PDF with lots of fancy type grids, a table of contents, a function reference, code samples, and quick tips. If you think that’s worth a couple bucks, I’d really appreciate it. If you want a free .txt version, you can get that here.

How does checkout work?

The form above will instantly provide you with a DRM-free download, as well as an email with a backup attachment (in both PDF and TXT format). The processing is handled by Stripe, a developer’s payment gateway that’s all the rage. Your info is completely secure, never touches my own server, and your email address will never be shared with anyone. I hate spam and confusing shit too, so you won’t find any here.

Why is this an e-book and not a series of blog posts?

This text was completed for a class, and since I took the time to write it in such a manner, I figured it deserved to be released in such a fashion. In the future, I might release each chapter as a stand-alone blog post, but this e-book version will always be available via donation for the budding developers that want to get the most out of their studies.

Do class attendees get this text for free?

Any student that attends my SkillShare class will get a free printed copy of this e-book, plus links to download the PDF and TXT versions. If the class has come and gone and you’ve lost your files, check out the Download page or send a message to @clarklab and I’ll get you fixed up.

Can I get a closer look at some of the spreads?

Sure! You can see a couple sample spreads from the PDF below. It’s DRM-free, so once you’ve got it, you can print it, email it to yourself, or save it on all your devices.

Prerequisites

To get the most out of these lessons, you’ll need a test install of WordPress. You can run it locally or online, just get ready to get down and dirty. You’ll need a text editor, an FTP client (or other way to put files), and some basic PHP knowledge. These lessons are aimed at intermediate developers that are starting to understand how things come together and want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
